Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh: Tech giant Google has announced the establishment of the Google AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to accelerate India’s AI-driven growth.
The project represents a USD 15 billion (₹1.25 lakh crore) investment over five years (2026–2030) – Google’s largest in India to date – and aligns with the Government of India’s Viksit Bharat Vision.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the Google AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, calling it “a powerful force in democratizing technology.” He stated that the initiative aligns with India’s mission of ‘AI for All’, boosting digital inclusion, driving innovation, and securing India’s position as a global technology leader.
Google AI Hub to Feature Gigawatt-Scale Data Center and AI Infrastructure
The Google AI Hub will combine advanced AI infrastructure, renewable energy systems, fiber-optic networks, and data center capacity into one integrated ecosystem.
Developed in collaboration with AdaniConnex and Airtel, the hub will include a 1-GW hyperscale data center campus designed to deliver gigawatt-scale computing power to support digital and AI-driven applications across India and beyond.

The infrastructure will power flagship Google services such as Search, YouTube, and Workspace, while offering Indian enterprises and startups high-performance, low-latency capabilities to build and scale their own AI-powered solutions. Beneficiaries include AI-led firms such as CoRover, Glance, Invideo AI, Sarvam, and others.
Global Connectivity Boost Through New International Subsea Gateway
A major component of the Google AI Hub investment includes the development of a new international subsea gateway in Visakhapatnam. The gateway will connect to Google’s two million miles of global terrestrial and undersea cables, establishing Vizag as a critical AI and connectivity hub.
This will provide high-capacity, low-latency digital pathways, enhancing India’s internet resilience and enabling faster access to Google services. It will also complement existing subsea cable landings in Mumbai and Chennai, helping meet India’s growing digital demand and promoting digital inclusivity.
Strengthening Energy Infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh
Google plans to collaborate with local partners in Andhra Pradesh to enhance clean energy generation, transmission, and storage systems. These initiatives will expand India’s renewable energy portfolio and strengthen the electricity grid’s resilience, in line with Google’s global commitment to sustainability and energy-efficient data centers.
